EUROPEAN DIRECTIVES AND STANDARDS IN THE EVENT OF CONNECTION FAILURE AND HOSE DISCONNECTION
The European Parliament describes the general safety requirements for machinery in the MACHINERY DIRECTIVE 2006/42/EC, which will be replaced in 2027 by EU REGULATION 2023-1230, implementing the safety requirements in supplementary standards such as UNI, EN, and ISO.
These standards state the following:
“Rigid or flexible hoses containing fluids, especially high-pressure hoses, must be securely fixed and/or protected to ensure that they do not pose a risk in the event of a rupture.”
“The pneumatic and hydraulic devices of machinery must be constructed so that, in the event of a component rupture, they do not pose a hazard due to the release of pressurized fluid or sudden movement of the hose (whiplash).”
“When a hose rupture could pose a risk of whiplash, the hose must be restrained or shielded with suitable means.”
“Dangerous whiplash injuries to hoses with pressures exceeding 50 bar must be prevented by fixed guards and/or additional hose fastenings.”
For further information, please consult some of the relevant standards, such as: UNI EN ISO 12100 – UNI EN ISO 4413 – UNI EN 201.
